IMPERII RUSSICI TABULA GENERALIS

Imperia RUSSICI TABULA generalists In 1734 in Moscow was the first Russian printed atlas. The most valuable of his map was undoubtedly map titled Imperia RUSSICI TABULA generalists, showing the whole Russian empire. The author of the atlas was Chief Secretary of the Senate IK Kirilov. He was one of the first graduates of the Naval Academy, founded by Tsar Peter I. General map of the Russian Empire compiled six surveyors under Kirillovovým leadership in the years 1731 - 1732 on the basis of a large number of documents unequal levels that come not only from trained surveyors, but also by the laity. The map is dedicated to the Empress Anna Ivanovna and is richly decorated. The central motif is a sun that never sets over the Russian empire. Decorative cartouches in the corners of the map contain, among others, Russian and Latin title of maps and three different video standards including the Russian longitudinal extent - versts. General map of Russia lacks many details, but still it is the first map that shows Russia as a whole, with more or less precise boundaries, including the coast. It was almost a complete novelty for Western Europe, apart from maps, which he sent to Paris JN Delisle. Preserved only a few pieces of the map, among other reasons, the Academy of Sciences of her death Kirillova deliberately suppressed to then in 1745 she released a new General map of Russia.
